Godly Play

Children in K-4 grades participate in Godly Play, a distinctive approach to Christian ministry with children. Based on the Montessori method of learning, the goal of Godly Play is to teach children the act of using religious language – parable, sacred story, silence and liturgical action – to help them become more fully aware of the mystery of God’s presence in their lives.

Godly Play is a discovery method that engages the whole child – hands, heart, mind, senses, and intuition. Using a careful telling of scripture stories, engaging story figures, and a variety of creative activities, children are encouraged to seek and find their own answers to their faith questions. This unique approach to religious education invites children to wonder about themselves, God, and the world in a way that is playful and meaningful to them.

Girl's Afternoon Tea

During Lent each year young girls invite their mothers, grandmothers, aunts and friends for an afternoon tea and cookie decorating event.  Cookies in the shape of bunnies, baskets, flowers and eggs are decorated and enjoyed with tea and lemonade. A special story is read to remind the group that we are all special just the way we are.

Easter Egg Hunt

An annual tradition at St. Luke's is the flowering of the wooden cross on Easter Sunday by the children at the end of the 10 a.m. service. Following the service, the children participate in an Easter Egg Hunt sponsored by the ECW. Hundreds of filled eggs are scattered around the church. The children enjoy running through the rooms collecting eggs and eating Easter candy.

Wii Event

In the spring, St. Luke's hosts its annual Wii Olympics.  Members young and old bring family and friends for an afternoon of freindly competition.  Heats of Wii Bowling narrow the competitors down to the final two for a 'bowl off' projected on the wall for all to enjoy.

Vacation Bible School

St. Luke's offers Vacation Bible School free of charge to anyone grades K-5 who would like to attend. Offered for 1 week during the summer from 9 a.m. to noon, Vacation Bible School participants explore stories in the Bible, play games, create crafts, enjoy treats and so much more.

Christmas Pageant

St. Luke's annual Christmas Pageant is performed on a Sunday during Advent.  Children and adults take on traditional and non-traditional roles within the pageant. The ECW hosts a reception in Orvis Hall following the 10 a.m. service where the children build and decorate gingerbread houses and are visited by Santa Claus.
