August 16—Prepare & Serve Homeless Shelter Meal

The next opportunity to serve the homeless people of Des Moines will be Monday, August 16. The most important part of the mission is to volunteer to help work the meal. Several different areas can be worked: donations, preparation of the food, transportation, serving, coordination of activities, outside preparation of some food, donation to the shelter, and of course—cash! We are starting early so we can have plenty of help. Contact Mark Johnson (277-3052) or the church office (277-0875) to sign up. Thanks for your involvement! August 21—Angel Food Distribution

Volunteers are needed to help with distribution. If you can help please sign up on the Angel Food Bulletin Board or contact Ernie Van Roekel. Those unloading the truck please arrive by 7:30 a.m. For distribution, volunteers should park at Crestwood Baptist Church two blocks west of St. Luke’s and arrive by 10:45a.m. There is a shuttle available 10:30-11a.m. that runs between Crestwood & St. Luke’s. Distribution will be from 11a.m.-Noon.

August 21—Acolyte Olympics & Day with the Bishop

Each year our acolytes attend this fun day at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul I in Des Moines where we have twice won the Olympic events! Acolytes should plan to attend. August 26—Fourth Thursday Supper

Food & Fellowship at 6p.m. every 4th Thursday in Orvis Hall. All are welcome!

August 27--Friday Night at the Movies

Join us for a potluck at 5:30pm or just come for the movie at 6:30pm. Movie to be announced closer to the event.

August 28—Fantasy Football Draft

This year’s fantasy football draft will be Sunday, August 28 at 4p.m. at the home of Jeff & Lisa Russell (5414 Ingersoll). Armchair quarterbacks of all ages and genders fight for the title of St. Luke’s Fantasy Football League Champion. For more info please contact Lisa Russell (277-1368) or Andrea Baker (367-2049).

 

FALL 2010 SCHEDULE

September 12—Annual Parish Picnic

St. Luke's Annual Parish Picnic will be held Sunday, September 12 following the 10a.m. service at Greenwood Park Open Shelter next to the playground (4500 Grand Ave). Hamburgers & hotdogs will be provided. Bring a covered dish to share and your own drinks, place setting & lawn chair. Grillers are needed!!! If you would like to help grill the meat please let Rosie Kingkade know (246-8451).
